The Darwyn and Pauline Young Family JOE A. YOUNG - Sardis Lake Joe A. Young, 78, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, at his home at Sardis Lake after a long illness. An Itawamba County native, he was born Dec. 24, 1926, to the late J. D. Young, Sr. and Pauline Robbins Young. He lived in Tupelo for many years and was a farmer and a dairyman. He retired in 1994 from the Shelby County Government after 15 1/2 years. A U. S. Navy Veteran, he served in Okinawa during World War II. He was a member of Belden United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing with his three brothers at his home at Sardis Lake. Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with the Rev. Roy McAllily, The Rev. Roy Ryan, and the Rev. Paul Young officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife, Allene Ryan Young of Sardis Lake; three children, Judy Smith and husband, Danny, and Tony Young and wife, Janice, all of Tupelo and Joe P. Young, Sr. and wife Gidge, of Ecru; three brothers, J. D. Young, Jr. of Tupelo, Robin Young of Hot Springs, Ark., and the Rev. Paul Young of Starkville; three sisters, Ann Rodgers of Conway, Ark., Jean Summers of Tupelo, and Carolyn Davidson of Amory; three stepchildren, Sandra Witt of Memphis, James A. Witt and wife, Linda, of Tupelo, and Richard Witt and wife, Nita, of Saltillo; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, eight step grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Young Comer. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and step grandsons, Joe P. Young, Jr., Andy Young, Greg Smith, Ryan Witt, Stephen Witt, and Geoffery Witt. Honorary pallbearers will be his great-grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 1 p.m. to service time Friday.
