Family News - August-December 2009

CHRISTMAS 2009
November 24, 2009 — The Comer Christmas will be held at Comer's Resturant on Sunday, December 13. You are invited to join family and friends for this annual get-together. If you have small children, bring a wrapped gift for "Santa" to give them when he makes his appearance.

ROBIN & MADELYN YOUNG TAKE A CRUISE
November 24, 2009 — Robin and Madelyn Young recently took a cruise to Mexico and the Panama Canal. They stopped in Costa Rica and Antiqua. They also spent some time in San Diego, CA before boarding the ship for their cruise. One of the places they saw was Balboa Naval Hospital where Robin had been a corpsman when he was in the Navy. They had a few "adventures" along the way while on the cruise but had a great trip. Madelyn has been sending great pictures and enjoyable writings of their trip.  (See the photos).

ASHLEY GREEN-YOUNG HAS SURGERY
November 24, 2009 — Ashley Green-Young had surgery in October and is back at work and doing well. Paul and Laura went to Tulsa for a week to assist the family while Ashley was unable to drive. While there, Paul went with Matthew, who is a Tiger Cub Scout, to the Nature Center where they took a tour through the center.

DAVID YOUNG BECOMES AN EAGLE SCOUT
November 24, 2009 — David Young has earned the rank of Eagle Scout in BSA. His ceremony was on November 15, 2009. His Eagle Scout project was improving the Youth Room at Hawkins UMC in Vicksburg. He had a lot of help from his Boy Scout troop and during the ceremony he thanked them for their assistance. The Scout Master and several of the troop members from David's troop in Columbus, MS came to Vicksburg and assisted in the ceremony. A number of family and friends from various cities also attended the ceremony and reception.  (See the photos).

RECENT YOUNG FAMILY NEWS
September 20, 2009 — Our sympathies are extended to Bill and Ann Sterling in the recent death of Bill's brother, Robert, in Little Rock, AR.

Robin and Madelyn recently made a trip to Shreveport and Natchitoches, Louisiana to visit friends and visit places where they had lived and worked while they lived in Louisiana. They went by Madelyn's family home in Shreveport; the Elementary schools where Robin and Madelyn taught school; and the house where they had lived with their children. They visited their friend Al and Laverene Morgan and then went by the Retirement Center to see their friend, Liz Jackson, and her sister. While in Natchitoches, they visited friends and toured the campus of Northwestern State University where they had attended school.

The first of September, Madelyn Young, along with eight others from the Village Writers, attended the White County Creative Writers' Conference in Searcy, AR

Robin, Paul, Paul Jr., Steve, Marty, Chris and Brian Young had their annual white-water rafting weekend in Tennessee the week after Labor Day. The weather was perfect for their rafting down the Hiawassee and the Ocoee Rivers on Friday and Saturday. They had a great weekend with lots of fun and fellowship - and good food.  (See the photos).

SPRING/SUMMER 2009
August 17, 2009 — Now that Summer is beginning to wind down, thought we could look back at the Spring and Summer and see what has happened with the Darwyn Young Family..

A new album has been created in the photo gallery, "Summer 2009"

David and Sarah Young went on a three-week trip to the western part of the U. S. with their Lockett grandparents and two of their cousins. They traveled in the mobile home and were able to see many of the sights along the way. While David and Sarah were with their grandparents, Chris and Becky took an enjoyable week vacation to Washington, D. C.

Lily Grace Young was baptized on Sunday, July 5, 2009. One of the friends from the Historic Presbyterian Church in Franklin made the baptismal gown as a gift to Steve, Tonya, and Lily Grace. The service was attended by extended family members, which made it a very special service.

Audrey Young and Emily and Libbey Roumen spent a week during July in Hot Springs Village with Robin and Madelyn. They had a great time going swimming and visiting some of the sites around Hot Springs Village.

Mike and Marilyn Comer, along with their children and grandchildren, went on vacation to the Grand Canyon in July. They visited other sites along the way and enjoyed being able to see the area and having a vacation together.

The children and grandchildren of Paul and Laura Young visited in Lake Junaluska, NC during the weekend and week of July 4. They enjoyed the fireworks show at the Lake and visiting some of the sites in the area. Paul, Chris, Brian, David, Jordan, Katherine, and Sarah went Whitewater Rafting on Wednesday.

Kevin Young visited in Tupelo in July. He and Janice went to Huntsville, AL to visit Janice's mother. On Saturday, July 18, thirty-seven family members gathered at Comer's Restaurant to visit with Kevin and to eat together. Everyone enjoyed the food and the fellowship.

Trey Woolhouse recently returned from a trip to Scotland where he and some of his friends played golf on several of the courses there.
