Some history on James Young and Sarah Todd McMurtrey Young: James came to America around 1740 with his father and some of his brothers. They entered America at Philadelphia. They settled in Augusta County Virginia, a Scotch – Irish settlement. James was a Miller and Farmer. James married his second wife Sarah Todd McMurtrey in the Church of Scotland. According to deed records in Augusta County in 1760 James Young, miller willed to Matthew Young, farmer 150 1/2 acres, where Matthew lives on Whistle Creek of James. The county records also shows on 20 August 1752 that John Fleming complains that James Young and Sarah, his wife, detained him contrary to Law, and they sumd. (2) The above mentioned will may have been written well before 1760 because Matthew had already moved to South Carolina and was not living on the farm at Whistle Creek.
